Tillis Campaign Statement On Tonight’s Nexstar Senate Debate Victory

September 22nd, 2020

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tillis for Senate campaign manager Luke Blanchat issued the following statement after tonight’s victory in the Nexstar debate:

“One week after Cal Cunningham’s disastrous debate performance where he proved he will say anything to win an election, Cunningham showed tonight he’s also willing to say nothing in order to win an election. Cunningham refused to answer simple questions or tell North Carolinians where he stands on basic issues, including declining to say whether Joe Biden should release a list of his Supreme Court nominees and declining to refute that he is bought and paid for by Chuck Schumer and will be nothing more than a rubber stamp for his far-left agenda. Cunningham also tried to re-write his extreme liberal record after sowing public distrust over an FDA-approved vaccine, cutting law enforcement funding by 22 percent, supporting dangerous sanctuary city policies, and declaring that Nancy Pelosi’s bill to provide illegal immigrants with taxpayer-funded stimulus checks and free healthcare was a ‘good starting point.’

While Cunningham spent the debate dodging and pandering to his extreme liberal base, Tillis laid out his vision for reviving our state’s economy, keeping our communities safe, and confirming well-qualified judges who will uphold the Constitution. Tillis made clear tonight that his sole focus is providing results for the people of North Carolina, and that’s exactly why he’ll be re-elected to the U.S. Senate in November.”
