May 12th, 2020
Says Protecting The Most Vulnerable During COVID-19 Recovery Is Personal To Him
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – While the COVID-19 outbreak has changed the way candidates are campaigning, Senator Tillis is not missing a beat, as he continues to reach out to North Carolinians through virtual events. Tillis joined RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Friday for a Zoom training session with campaign volunteers across the state.
In his remarks to the volunteers, Tillis noted the importance of his race when it comes to retaining control of the Senate majority in 2020, and also made the case that his blue collar background provides him with a unique understanding of how to lead the COVID-19 economic recovery and protect the most vulnerable.

SENATOR TILLIS (tv clip): North Carolina is ground zero for keeping a majority in the U.S. Senate.
SPECTRUM’S KEVIN FREY (tv clip): Blunt talk from Republican Senator Thom Tillis about the stakes of his reelection this November. The comments coming on a recent Zoom call with Republican campaign volunteers
SENATOR TILLIS (tv clip): All eyes are focused on North Carolina. The Democrats know that if they beat us, then they are most likely going to resume control of the Senate. We cannot let that happen.
SENATOR TILLIS: The people most economically vulnerable – their futures are on the line. We’ve got to get the job creators back on line. We’ve got to get the economy back on line. We’re going to come out of this as as state stronger, and we can come out of this as a nation stronger if we recognize that Republican leadership, pro-jobs leadership, looking out for the little guy, looking out for those people who are struggling is something that I think about every day because I was one of them. And I look forward us getting out there and getting a message to the American people that we are there for them, we are there to guarantee their future, we’re there to take China to task for its responsibility in this COVID virus, and we’re here to do everything we can to get back to that great, and booming, and prosperous environment that we just had a couple of months ago. And I’m going to do everything I can to get reelected. And it’s going to be tough, but we’re going to win, and we’re going to win mainly because of people in the party, people in the RNC, great leaders like Ronna leading the charge getting our message out. We will win in November, and I’m confident that we’ll win because of people like you.
