Choosing candidates in local races can be difficult, but in the end we all must choose candidates who will advocate for positions we believe are in the best interests of our community.  The following endorsements are for candidates who have requested my endorsement, and with whom I have spent significant time to gain an understanding of his or her background and positions on key issues.  I strongly believe they will serve our community well.  I encourage you to reach out to these candidates in the remaining days before Election Day.  To help you learn more, you can CLICK on their name and you will be linked to their website, if available.  PLEASE VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6th.

My Position On Bond Referendums & The Transit Tax Repeal

I SUPPORT CMS Bonds for New School Construction
The proposed bond package takes a positive step forward in addressing the serious overcrowding situation we have in North Mecklenburg.  Our area will receive the largest amount of the funding and it cannot come soon enough.  While we need to continue to fight for additional funding (through COPS and possibly other sources) we need to approve the bonds and start design and construction critical projects.  For more information, click  the following link http://www.meckbonds2007.com/schools.

I SUPPORT CPCC Bonds
The proposed bond for CPCC bonds will provide funding for building maintenance and expansion of facilities.  The bond proceeds will finance the next phase of the College’s strategic plan to expand access to CPCC education and training for our community.  For more information, click the following link  http://www1.cpcc.edu/2007bond.

I Am AGAINST the Repeal of the Transit Tax
Of all the choices voters must make in this year's election, the repeal of the transit tax is by far the most divisive and most difficult.  I have friends and colleagues who are on opposite sides of this issue, but the differences between them are not as they may seem.  I OPPOSE the current plan for expanding commuter rail (North Line) and light rail (Northeast Line) due to serious concerns with the financial viability of the plan and the potential undue burden on taxpayers.  I do not view the repeal as a referendum on trains, I view it as a major threat to a dedicated source of funding for transportation.  I OPPOSE the repeal of the transit tax because I believe it creates more problems than it solves and it sets back our efforts to secure additional funding for ROADS.  To read more about my position, CLICK this link to review a letter I submitted to a local newspaper.
